Aquatic Races

Back to Races Page
Aquatic and semi-aquatic races are capable of breathing underwater indefinitely (due to containing gills that can filter oxygen from the water around them. Semi-aquatic races can live on land or in water, but aquatic races need some form of water to function.

Semi-Aquatic Races

Shark

Phonetics: shark
Lifespan: 500-600
Height: 3'00"-13'00"
Diet: Carnivore Magninium
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Non-Pony

Stereotype: Violent, cruel, erratic, sadistic
Picture
Sharks are unique in that they require a consumption of Magninium in addition to normal food to survive, most of which must be gathered from other sentient beings. Some Sharks have taken up pacifistic lifestyles to try to prove they aren't mindless murderers (new age Sharks) while yet others are fine to indulge in this stereotype thrust onto them (old age Sharks). In civilized Universes, Sharks are typically given rations of Magninium from the government to curb this need.

Their culture places heavy emphasis on the bonds between siblings rather than partners, and divorces are common, but usually amicable. Due to their need to eat Magninium to survive, Sharks shun the idea of trying to live on in the Dead Zone forever and actively avoid trying to make a large enough impact to survive.

There are several variants of Shark, but Shark do not make any real discrimination between the variants. The most common variant are Threshers.

Dolphin

Phonetics: doll-FIN
Lifespan: 200-400
Height: 4'00"-11'00"
Diet: Carnivore
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Non-Pony

Stereotype: Sexual, flirty, flakey, ghosting
Picture
Dolphins have one thing on the mind: sex. Completely inappropriate at the best of times, and downright obscene at the worst, Dolphins have no idea what 'public decency' even means, and are more than happy to strip down and go at it, any time, any place.

They form harems that are led by a Psuedorca or Orca, the highest caste members in their structure. These harems are tightly-knit, but not constricting, and it's not uncommon for members to sleep around outside of the bonds.

Their favorites are Sharks, who they find irresistibly hot.

Dolphins are generally laidback and easygoing, in part due to the fact that it's hard for them to hold a grudge - they just bang and get over their disagreements. They do become confused, however, when members of other races aren't so willing to have sex and kiss it better.

Antelope

Phonetics: ant-eh-LOPE
Lifespan: 170-200
Height: 4'00"-5'00"
Diet: Pescatarian
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Non-Pony

Stereotype: Moody, abrasive, aloof, irritable
Picture
Antelope have two large, curved horns sprouting from the top of their head and a large dorsal fin. Their tails are almost all universally short, and their mouths are full of sharp teeth.

They enjoy open relationships and polyamory, often dating large groups of people at a time and sampling varying levels of intimacy and friendship. They're not as open about it all as Dolphins, but do find monogamy confusing and restrictive, and have trouble staying with partners who desire closed relationships.

Antelope quickly shut down if they feel belittled or threatened (which, in fairness, is quite often) and can quickly lose trust in even their closest relationships. It's notoriously easy to send an Antelope into an hours-long moping fit, especially if one messes around with their prized possessions. Most other races avoid them, as the emotional drag is often too much to bear for too little reward.

Whale

Phonetics: whail
Lifespan: 200-400
Height: 7'00"-13'00"
Diet: Omnivore
Sex: (variant-dependent)
Type: Non-Pony

Stereotype: Mysterious, spacey, mystical, hivemind
Picture
Whales, of the Aquatics, are the least associated with water. Instead, they stay on land and form hierarchies surrounding their variants, and communicate via a shared hivemind that's akin to universal telepathy.

Each hivemind is called a Song and is headed by a singular Blue Whale, who can mate with Sperm Whales and introduce more to the Song. Sperm Whales tend to the Blue and keep the Song running efficiently, serving as a proxy between Blues and Right Whales, who are the most populous and lowest caste.

Sperm Whales are extremely isolationist and distrusting of outsiders, but Rights and Blues are extremely curiosity-driven and love exploring new technology, places, and people. As Blue Whales aren't allowed to leave the safe confines of their Song's headquarters, they communicate to their Rights to learn more about the outside world and live through them.

Aquatic Races

Mermaid

Phonetics: mur-MAID
Lifespan: 400-500
Height: 8'00"-11'00"
Diet: Pescetarian
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Non-Pony

Stereotype: Generous, loving, naive, sweet
Picture
Mermaids are the only fully-aquatic race that is recognized as fully sentient. They live underwater completely, only surfacing occasionally to communicate with landdwellers, as their large, fishlike body makes transversing dry land difficult. Their kiss can bestow the ability to breathe underwater for an hour at a time, making them excellent underwater tour guides and marine researchers.

Mermaid culture is centered around generosity, and most haven't the faintest idea of money or why anyone wouldn't give away their belongings for free. Their communities are tightly-knit and isolated, but extremely curious about outsiders and open to sharing their goods and history with them. They love visitors!

Their diet is almost completely comprised of fish, and it's easy to get on a Mermaid's good side by offering them a fresh catch. Usually, the gift of fish is enough to prompt one to be given a kiss, which in turn leads to being capable of catching more fish, and so on and so forth....

Ercapall

Phonetics: air-cah-PALL
Lifespan: 170-200
Height: 4'00"-5'00"
Diet: Pescatarian
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Non-Pony

Stereotype: Unintelligent, docile, submissive
Picture
Ercapall reside in saltwaters, and have powerful teeth that can tear into ships and bring them down, although they mostly hunt fish and scatter when sentient races dip into the water. Their shy nature and unique appearance has made them an appealing pet, although the question of their sentience raises ugly questions for this practice.

They are unable to speak Common, but unlike Kelpines, seem capable of learning it. When taught from young ages, Ercapall are capable of writing Common and responding to both spoken and written questions, displaying an ability to cognitively consider and understand topics. Universal translators have yet to work on them, though.

They're eager to please and food-motivated, and do seem to understand the concept of praise and affection. It's seen as good luck to feed schools of Ercapall fish if one is going out to sea, as it's assumed that they will protect the liner from dangerous creatures lurking in depths.

Kelpine

Phonetics: kell-pine
Lifespan: 150-200
Height: 3'00"-5'00"
Diet: Pescatarian
Sex: Binary
Type: Non-Pony

Stereotype: Unintelligent, violent, aggressive
Picture
Kelpines do not understand Common, do not seem to learn it, and lurk deep in freshwater lakes and rivers. These factors combined have left them considered not a race for the longest period of time, but the constant display of culture has left many wondering where the line is drawn.

Kelpines form matriarchal societies of a leader female and her group of advising females, and lead the pack to gather food at the banks of their territory. They communicate in squeaks and whistles, and are obviously adapted for water movement, with fins and webbed digits. Males are extremely rare, with only a small handful per pack.

They seem to create art, build structures, and have some sort of bartering system - Kelpines are willing to trade shiny objects and sunken goods in return for food or items of personal appeal. They can also communicate to Ercapall, although there's clearly some sort of language barrier that both races struggle to overcome.
