Pony Races

Back to Races Page
Pony races are categorized as such as, even though they may have vastly different appearances and abilities, they are all capable of creating fertile offspring from pairings made between different races (the only exception are demon ponies). They tend to take up a large chunk of population of Universes, although their culture is not at all unified and various pony races might despise the others.

Core Races

Pegasus

Phonetics: peg-AH-sus
Lifespan: 150-200
Height: 4'00"-6'00"
Diet: Omnivore
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Pony (Flying)

Stereotype: Racist, hateful, violent, judgmental
Picture
Pegasi are infamous for their tempers and racism, which are quick to flare when dealing with anyone outside of their race. It's bad enough that most pegasi are more willing to be around strangers who happen to also be pegasi rather than family members who may be of other races, feeling unified in their flock and unspoken bonds.

They are a flying race capable of influencing weather patterns and changing the weather with a few wingbeats. As such, most go into weather control of some sort, creating massive factories that pump out good weather and chase away disasters.

Inside of flocks, pegasi are excessively giving and helpful to one another, creating strong bonds and a loving community where any member can turn for help. They do nurse a soft spot for other flying races, however.

If a pegasus has smaller wings or is incapable of flight for whatever reason, other pegasi will violently shun them.

Unicorn

Phonetics: you-NEE-corn
Lifespan: 150-200
Height: 6'00"-8'00"
Diet: Omnivore
Sex: Binary
Type: Pony

Stereotype: Snooty, uptight, rich, conceited
Picture
Unicorns sprout a horn on top of their head, giving them natural affinity for magic. This trait has made them invaluable in fields of medicine and technology, letting unicorns often rise to make up the upper echelons of society. Some resentment definitely flows from the other races towards unicorns, although not all of it might be deserved.

Within their own race, unicorns place great importance on education and intellect. They push their children to excel in school, and university/sponsorship is heavily frowned upon to the point of shunning in unicorn culture. Academics is so preferred that physical trades and sports are not even close to being on the same pedestal.

Despite the assumptions, however, not many unicorns are actually rich. The jobs that they tend to take don't actually pay exceptionally well, and at best, unicorns are upper middle class. Still, that doesn't stop the onslaught of hatred and vitriol flung their way, which they take in haughty stride.

Base Pony

Phonetics: pony
Lifespan: 150-200
Height: 5'00"-6'00"
Diet: Omnivore
Sex: Binary
Type: Pony

Stereotype: Quiet, withdrawn, honest, humble
Picture
As the only race capable of growing plants to the extremes needed to feed nations, base ponies find themselves almost instantly boxed into biology, botany, and agriculture. At the very least, most plants just need a slight brush from a base pony early on in their lives in order to produce food for the rest of their existence, making base ponies less integral to food production than it sounds.

Still, they tend to not mind being forced into physical labor and natural sciences. Base ponies are typically satisfied with their lot in life, not looking to rock the boat or cause undue stress to others. They find it easy to relax and make the best of things, and insults wash over their backs.

They can quite literally speak to plants, and share deep bonds with the vegetation of their region. Those who live in cities often purchase and tend to potted plants in order to feel more at home. Even though they're omnivores, most exclusively eat meat, as to not harm any plants.

Alicorn

Phonetics: al-EH-corn
Lifespan: 150-200
Height: 9'00"-10'00"
Diet: Omnivore
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Pony (Flying)

Stereotype: Loud, clumsy, excitable, energetic
Picture
Alicorns are rare, but that's because they're a special hybrid of a pegasus and unicorn, and that pairing is fairly under-represented in most populations. Involving a careful mix of DNA, alicorns don't tend to have their own culture, and simply end up siding with one of their parents' races' culture (mostly unicorn culture).

There is, however, a trend of alicorns often falling into activism as a career path, working to earn rights for second-class races (like demon ponies and rhinos) and rallying for whatever cause they staunchly believe in. Optimism is important to them, and alicorns always try to find the silver lining in absolutely any situation, no matter how feeble.

Their magic is weaker than that of their unicorn ancestry, and their bodies are simply too tall for their wings to easily pick them off the ground. Despite this, Alicorns are seen as boons and good omens, as producing one is a rare feat. They are often elevated in noble and wealthy families as new heirs.

Outskirt Races

Demon Pony

Phonetics: demon
Lifespan: (Indefinite)
Height: 4'00"-6'00"
Diet: -
Sex: Sexless
Type: Pony

Stereotype: Cheerful, shy, reclusive, exotic
Picture
Demon ponies lack a true body, instead being made up of smoke centered around a "core". This core can be made up of any hollow object, and ranges from carefully-handcrafted gifts from parents to whatever the two had lying around when they wanted to create a baby. The parents mix bits of their smoke and place it into their chosen core together. After a few weeks, a new demon pony emerges.

The smoke of their bodies can be burnt up if left in hot temperatures, or blown away by heavy winds, or swept away by fast-moving water. Generally, demon ponies don't do well outdoors.

They can retreat into their cores if scared, which happens to be often. Unfortunately, with their cores exposed, demon ponies are vulnerable both to kidnapping and violence.

Despite that, demon ponies are staunchly trusting and believe in the best of people. Of course, being naive only serves to make them more adorable and attractive.

Bat Pony

Phonetics: bat
Lifespan: 130-170
Height: 4'00"-6'00"
Diet: Omnivore
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Pony (Flying)

Stereotype: Distant, traditionalistic, arrogant
Picture
Bat ponies can come in one of three varieties - one with wings on their back, another with wings in place of their arms, and a third with flaps of skin from their arms to their bodies, like a flying squirrel's. All variants consider themselves normal bat ponies, and all have fluffy ears/chests and sharp fangs.

Their culture tends to be focused on small familial units that make up a large group, which tend to be nomadic. These groups often have spanned dozens of generations, having carried down their ancestor's traditions and legends. Most ruins or ancient structures in Universes were once host to a flock of bat ponies before they grew restless and left their cities behind. Modern bat ponies are somewhat possessive of these, and dislike anthropologists interfering.

They have their own language, separate from Common. However, they can still learn and speak Common, although isolated communities of bat ponies may not even know another language exists.

Iron Pony

Phonetics: iron
Lifespan: 200-300
Height: 6'00"-8'00"
Diet: Omnivore
Sex: Binary
Type: Pony

Stereotype: Selfish, self-centered, braggarts
Picture
Iron ponies almost look identical to base ponies at first glance - although their hair tends to be shinier than their cousins' - but they boast a powerful talent: the ability to touch gold, silver, and copper without a single negative effect. This coveted ability is often displayed via the iron pony wearing plenty of pure gold jewelry, which also makes it difficult for other races to punch their snooty faces in.

Their ability makes them especially useful when it comes to extracting gold from mines or from laboratories with experiments gone wrong, and most iron ponies do feel at home surrounded by metals and minerals. Many tend to go into geology or gemology, becoming experts in the fields and rubbing this into the other races' faces. After all, it's not like their colleagues can pick up that 10-ton gold chunk like they can!

When they die, iron ponies' bodies decompose into various minerals or gemstones. There doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason to it, save that eye color seems to influence mineral color.

Underworlder

Phonetics: under-worlder
Lifespan: 170-200
Height: 9'00"-11'00"
Diet: Insectivore
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Pony (Flying)

Stereotype: Sleazy, picky, charismatic, touchy
Picture
Underworlders are especially adapted for living underground and in dark areas, with muted palettes, large eyes, and four bug-like wings. They also sport a single horn on their head.

They're notorious for their general dislike of other members of their race, and near-contempt when they have to cooperate. Where other races form small communities in mixed cities, Underworlders actively sabotage one another and avoid mixing whenever possible.

Their distaste for community bleeds into their relationships with other races, and Underworlders are perfectly fine with cheating other people out of goods, services, and money. Even with their reputation as shady salespeople, their natural charisma and smooth-talking usually wins even the harshest of critics over.

The pinnacles of their life are insects, their preferred diet and focus; and religion, what they spend most of their free time obsessing over.

Vampony

Phonetics: VAM-pony
Lifespan: 170-200
Height: 3'00"-4'00"
Diet: Omnivore
Sex: Anbinary
Type: Pony (Flying)

Stereotype: Greedy, selfish, inconsiderate
Picture
At first glance, vamponies appear like pegasi. In fact, the only visual difference is their protruding fangs, and since all races have a chance to have sharper teeth mutations, it isn't always cut-and-dry.

Unlike pegasi, however, vamponies feed on emotions. They can pick up on and consume the fluctuations in Magninium that individuals give off when their feelings shift, and hence enjoy being in large crowds of people and public places. In fact, vamponies enjoy jobs involving customer service and retail, as it gives them a wide sampling of food.

They can consume regular food, as well, but cannot live off of it exclusively. A vampony cannot "feed" on an emotion enough to cause it to disappear, as they feed on magic that naturally leaks during the process, not the emotion itself. Still, the other races find the entire process disturbing, and most would feel violated if they found out they were fed from.

Tentacula

Phonetics: tent-AH-coo-la
Lifespan: 150-200
Height: 5'00"-6'00"
Diet: Omnivore
Sex: Sexless
Type: Pony

Stereotype: Clueless, clumsy, overly affectionate
Picture
Tentacula love you. They do. And they will do everything in their power to show it, including cuddling, gifts, and bailing you out of jail.

Jokes aside, they're infamous for how sweet and trusting they are. Capable of understanding Common, but unable to speak it due to the tentacle residing in their throat, they have their own sign language involving positioning their tail and tongue in various ways.

Their tongue can secrete both sexual fluids for procreation and an acid-like substance for dissolving food, which they can then lap up and eat. When reproducing among each other, Tentacula will kiss.

They have absolutely no concept of personal space, and insist on clinging to their favorite people. Their attachment is easy to earn, easy to keep, and hard to shake off, and it's often better to just accept that one's become the target of their adoration rather than fight it.
