Wild Animals

Back to Bestiary
britneys back bitch

Mammals

Name: Backos
Phonetics: bah-koh
Lifespan: ~15 years
Preferred Climate: Temperate

Diet: Insectivore

Conservation: Least Concern

Danger Level: ★★☆☆☆
Picture
Backos are a common household pest, although their natural habitat is primarily caverns and jungles. They boast the unique ability to mimic noises, primarily those of other animals (and the sentient races). One can always know when a backo has nested in their attic when their sentences are constantly parroted back to them.

They do not appear to comprehend the words that they mimic, although each colony of backo appears to have a certain set of noises that they repeat to identify themselves. Noises can range from phrases to the sound of teleportation.

Some people choose to keep them as pets, but this is fairly looked-down-upon.

Avians

Semi-Aquatic / Aquatic

Name: Leviathans
Phonetics: lev-eye-ah-than
Lifespan: ~10,000 years
Preferred Climate: (varies)

Diet: Opportunistic Pescatarian

Conservation: Near Threatened

Danger Level: ★★★☆☆

Another example of a Leviathan is here.
Leviathans are generally considered friendly, but can be dangerous if their territory is disturbed or they become too used to people. They easily adapt to climates, specializing for freshwater, saltwater, bogwater, or lava, and grow to absolutely staggering sizes.

To some degree, they display some form of sentience, able to communicate to some degree with people. Leviathans learn tricks, can "beg" for food, and identify friendly cruises/liners and avoid attacking or disrupting them.

They prefer eating fish, but do not turn down offers of other types of food.

Leviathan scales are often renown for their beauty, use in jewelry, and herbalistic properties, but mass-scale collection is nearly impossible due to the animals' size, rarity, and ability to defend itself.
